A Collaboration between the Macedonian and the Montenegrin P.E.N. Centres
PROMOTION OF THE MACEDONIAN LITERATURE IN MONTENEGRO
As an integral part of the collaboration between the Macedonian and the Montenegrin P.E.N. Centres, the Macedonian writers Dimitar Bashevski (President of the Macedonian P.E.N. Centre), Vele Smilevski and Svetlana Hristova-Jocic (members of the Macedonian P.E.N. Centre) visited Montenegro from the 15th till the 18th of August 2005. This visit was a part of the Programme of the Macedonian P.E.N. Centre for 2005 and its main goal was a promotion of the Macedonian literature in Montenegro. For 2006 a return visit of the colleges of the Montenegrin P.E.N. Centre is planned and their introduction with the Macedonian audience.
The programme for the visit of the Macedonian writers in Montengro was prepared by the Montenegrin P.E.N. Centre and its President, the well-known poet Sreten Perovic, and it consisted of meetings and conversations about the newest currents in the Macedonian literature. They were mainly held in Podgorica, Bar, Budva, and there was also an additional visit of Lovcen.
There used to be intensive contacts between our two literatures in the past. Books of numerous Macedonian writers were translated and published in Montenegro in the past and vice versa. This collaboration will now continue. Last year, the novel “Panteleus on cornel-wood” (“Pantelej na dren”) by Jevrem Brkovic was published in Skopje and in Montenegro the novel “The Well” (“Bunar”) by Dimitar Bashevski.all contents © Macedonian P.E.N.
